When I left off we were in Reno, NV and headed to Santa Fe. Guess what??? We actually did go there without too
many side trips.
On the way we stopped at Bailey's Hot Springs near Beatty, NV north of Las Vegas. For $15/night you get full
hookups and all the hot tubbing you could ever want. Great spot!!! On we went through Ash Fork, AZ where we
spent the night near a flagstone yard just off the interstate. Jerri, Colleen's sister-in-law and James, her nephew,
drove up from Prescott to have brunch with us. We had a great morning before continuing on. That day we drove
300 miles to Grants, NM and the WalMart parking lot.
We arrived in Santa Fe on November 3rd, Justin's 33rd birthday. Now who could imagine that I am old enough to
have a son that ancient. I remember my mom's 28th birthday and thought at the time that she was really old. Now I
have a son that is older than that!!! I guess that the alternative to growing old is not very attractive so I'll quit
worrying about that.
We parked in front of Justin and Amanda's house for a week and really enjoyed seeing them and sharing meals
with them though they were at work during the day. While they were working Colleen and I spent our days visiting
with a few friends and making arrangements for our Panama trip. There was a lot of work to be done arranging
insurance, mail, banking and bill paying for the 10 months we would be gone. Fortunately for us the weather was
really beautiful and relatively warm...Santa Fe can be really cold at that time of the year.
From Santa Fe we headed to Albuquerque to spend another week of days visiting friends and continuing the trip
preparations. We 'camped' in front of Marilyn's house for a week then moved to Blair and Jon's new house. It was
fun watching the flurry of activity as their beautiful new home received its finishing touches.
We left the rig in Albuquerque for some warranty work and headed off to visit Karin and Jae at Outland. We really
enjoyed seeing them and all the work they have done there. Then we headed to Jean and Chris's new home in
Taos...new to them...it's about 100 years new!!! Then back to Justin and Amanda's for one last night before
heading south. This was our goodbye to Dinah, our dog, as we left her in good hands there. Dogs are not very
happy or healthy critters in Central America and we didn't think it would be very safe for her not to mention that it
would restrict our movements somewhat as we arrived and used public transportation to see the outlying areas.
We picked up the motorhome and got as far as Gallup. We were headed for Dewey near Prescott where we were
going to get a satellite dish that will give us access to the internet and satellite telephone service during our trip.
We got the equipment and then spent 3 days visiting family and sharing Thanksgiving dinner with family and
friends.
That brings us to the end of November. We didn't see many new cities or towns, but we got to spend a lot of time
with our friends and family before setting off on our big adventure and we tended to business as we made
preparations for our trip south...M (meet the group) day is December 26th and D (departure) day is January 2nd.
