When we crossed the border from Mexico, we disconnected the Jeep and Colleen took off for Prescott, AZ by way
of Carlsbad and Lakewood, NM and Tucson….on the way she camped out under the stars in a tent for a few
nights and visited friends along the way. Jean and I proceeded north to Santa Fe. Along the way we took a rock
on the drivers’ side windshield that turned into a crack that was heading north and west across the driver’s side
as we went along. Wouldn’t you know it that we traveled for two years on some really iffy roads with nary a
problem and then NM does it again…a crack in the windshield.
Colleen spent two weeks in AZ and then came up to Santa Fe in time for a wedding reception for Jared and Carla
in Albuquerque. She then stayed in Santa Fe over her 56th birthday which we celebrated with a hike in the Pecos
Wilderness and a dinner out.
A week later Colleen headed back to Prescott and made it as far as Grants where the Jeep broke down. She
called to tell me that she was in a motel and thought it would be fixed the following day, Saturday, and not to
worry. Well, on Saturday she called back to say she might be there for a couple of days so I headed out in the
motorhome to meet her in Grants….we might as well have a nice hiatus near there while the car was repaired.
We headed up to the Mt Taylor wilderness area and found a beautiful place to camp at about 9000’ where it was
nice and cool at night. While there we did a couple of hikes and enjoyed some nice thunderstorms. We even had
to turn on the furnace in the morning…it was chilly…I loved it!!!
The Jeep was taking longer than expected so we headed to ABQ in the motorhome to do some errands and see a
friend while parked in front of her house overnight….the next morning Colleen caught a bus back to Grants
because the car was ready and I headed back up to Santa Fe….
I told you that this month would not bring much in the way of adventures!!!! Are you still with me?
So, since that exciting time in Grants waiting for the Jeep, I have been here in Santa Fe playing with Madison and
really enjoying Justin and Amanda’s company. I am parked right in front of their house and am really appreciative
of how generous the neighbors are not to complain. I have the satellite dish set up in their front yard and a cord to
the 110.
I have been doing lots of chores on the motorhome….Colleen left me with a very long list of things to do….for
those of you who know Colleen you are not surprised….today I am going up to Taos to see Jean for a few days.
So, Colleen will be showing up here in time for Madison’s first birthday and then we are headed east to Indiana to
the Newmar factory for the motorhome’s last warranty work. From there we will head back to the Yucatan to get
started on the next phase of developing Maricasa. If there are any readers out there who are interested in
caravanning with us part way or all the way to the Yucatan, let us know. We will probably cross the border at
Brownsville, TX before the end of September. Last year we made the same offer and Bill and Laurie joined us for
the entire trip down. We had a great time and really enjoyed their company. We hope to have others join us this
time as we make our way leisurely to Calderitas.
Oh yeah….Madison is just as cute and smart as one would hope….having this time here with her has been
fantastic. I have posted a couple of new pictures of her on the website if you are interested. Check out the
pictures on this site at Other Links and then the link to Madison’s own page. If you are interested in what we are
doing at Maricasa in the Yucatan, see that website at www.maricasa.com
