From Paa Mul we moved further south to Tulum to one of our favorite camping spots on the beach at the
fishermen’s cooperative (N 20:12 W 87:26). We stayed there for two nights for 40 pesos/night. It is a really great
swimming beach and we swam a lot.

From Tulum we returned to Xcalak where we spent two nights with John and Danice. It was great to see them and
enjoyed their idyllic spot. Danice spoiled us with dessert every night and we shared some great meals with them.

From Xcalak we drove to Calderitas and stayed at the Yax Ha trailer park right on the water. The price is steep -
$20/night – but we enjoyed the electrical hookup with so many computers going and we didn’t’ have to worry
about getting stuck on the land at Maricasa if it rained.

Just to let everyone know what we have been up to for so many months in Calderitas, on June 6th five waterfront
acres were purchased by the Mexican corporation called Maricasa. It is our intention to create a women’s
retirement community on that land. If you are interested in learning more about it, we have created a website
detailing the plan at
www.maricasa.com

We were expecting another visitor to Calderitas in addition to Tracey and Jean. TC arrived on June 7th and we
began a week of touring the area and discussions about the Maricasa venture. TC and Tracey left on June 12th –
TC was flying home from Cancun and Tracey was headed for a week of diving at Cozumel before returning to the
States to start the next phase of her life after finishing a two year commitment in Honduras with the Peace Corps.

On June 15th Colleen, Jean and I headed back to the US. Our first night out we spent back in Palenque as Jean
had never been there.  From Palenque we continued on to La Venta to camp at a Pemex station with a stop in
Villahermosa at the zoo and to see the Olmec heads. Then it was on to Tehuantepec/Santa Teresa to an RV park
with a bad entrance down a graveled road and parking in a field with trees. The price was supposed to be
$10/night but we offered $5 and were allowed to stay. The bathrooms were a mess and we didn’t use them.

On the 19th we traveled to Oaxaca and stayed at the Sam’s Club like last year. We spent two nights and Jean got
to visit with an old friend from her days living in Mexico about 8 years ago.

On the 21st we traveled to a Pemex station just south of Pachuca. We are driving on the toll roads as we have a
long ways to go in a short period of time. This day the tolls were 540 pesos.

On the 22nd we drove to San Miguel de Allende to stay at the La Siesta Motel on the outskirts of town. We stayed
three nights and met a new friend named Nancy Nisbet who is an artist and art professor at the university in
Vancouver, BC. We had a good time getting to know her and hear about her project that will take her around
Canada, the US and Mexico next year….check it out at
www.finearts.ubc.ca/nisbet/new_work/exchange.htm

From San Miguel we drove 267 miles to near Zacatecas and stayed on a soccer field just north of the town. There
were several horse trailers there and we discovered that we had just missed the finale of a three day endurance
riding event in honor of Pancho Villa.

From Zacatecas we drove to Torreon with toll fees of 649 pesos…then on to Villa Ahumada with toll fees of 1019
pesos and camped next to the town square…then crossed the border on the 28th with no hassles. We parked in
a shopping center in El Paso and disconnected the Jeep as Colleen is going to spend some time in Arizona
visiting friends and family while Jean and I continued up to Socorro, NM. In Socorro we camped next to a motel
that had an open access wireless network.

On the 29th we arrived in Santa Fe at my son Justin’s house. Jean has gone home and back to work in Taos and
I am hanging out with Justin, Amanda and Madison, my granddaughter.

Colleen and I will be in the US for all of July, August and part of September at a minimum. At that time we will
return to Calderitas to start the process of building at Maricasa.

I will keep you updated during these months, but you might not hear much more than how smart Madison is and
how much I am enjoying playing with her.
